Our experiment continues. We want to experiment new methods of urban renewal through models of network participation.
The open-air laboratory for this experiment is a abandoned area of Mazara del Vallo, in Sicily, which together with you we want to convert into a cultural center of second generation.
Get into the heart of our urban renewal project, play with innovative approaches, promote your online project, coordinate a working group, realize your project. Together we demonstrate the power of sharing, creativity and resilience: Let others know your project and Make it come true with your own hands.

After the successful first edition The Temporary Refuge where we received more than 130 projects and registered more than 700 members, the competition returns with a theme that puts everybody around the table: Food Mood, innovative ideas for traditional kitchens.
The aim will be that of designing an all-round food space, from the setting-up to the culinary offer. Projects that know how to be visionary, effective and achievable for a mobile and temporary Food Point, sustainable and adaptable to different contexts.
We know how the food is an extraordinary tool for diffusion, interaction and cultural promotion: it stimulates relationships, lights up the atmosphere, connects people and creates movements.
This is why in recent years the issue of Food came more and more important into our lifestyle, highlighting positive and negative values, problems and opportunities. In the mass production, in the field of design and as well in the food’s one, the more valuable element remains identity. But how does the creative sector transmit this value?
We look forward to seeing your projects, but before you get at work, invite your friends and make your favourite dish, because food, in the end, is the mirror of our mood.
We challenge you to design a mobile kitchen in 10 square meters.
With an open source approach, we want to convert a wonderful tuff quarry and an ex kindergarten from the 80s, in a center for activism design and performing arts, where we can experiment urban regeneration and new forms of land development.
We promote a strategy based on flexible use, where activities and services, divided into modules of 10m², can move from one area to another as needed. Modules made on site but designed by the network.
Every year one theme to develop a different area, to promote the best ideas of the network and experiment with new models of participation at the service of the local area.
Join the web
Join the competition and make known your talent and your group of work at an international level.
Meet more designers, ideas, and visions for the same project theme.
Build your project
We know how important is to go beyond the project on the paper, for this reason, we give you a real chance to make it happen for real.
In case of victory you and your team can join us in Mazara del Vallo!
Take part of the process
Participating means being part of a wider regeneration process started four years ago and carried on by tens of people that, like you, have put design at the centre of the future.
Become an active part of this vision and transform your learning experience into a solid opportunity for the development of an abandoned area.
Grow, make others grow with you
Through 10m² competition, we want to find the Tutors of the next year’s festival. Every year, Periferica organizes an international event of urban regeneration aimed at university students and young professionals.
