We’re back with the event that aims to gather the best ideas in the field of Architecture, Design and Communication for the reactivation of disused areas in Sicily.
THEME
Micro village for Macro Visions is the theme of the urban regeneration festival Periferica, an event that aims to gather the best ideas in the field of Architecture, Design and Communication for the re-activation of disused areas in Sicily.
Coming to the 4th edition, the festival returns with the same spirit but rich of news related to the period of performance and the modalities of participation.
The program, rich of workshops for students, lasts for 10 days and will deal in direct and indirect form with the subject of contrast as the key to reading and re-writing the brownfields. Immersed in Cava degli Umori, the purpose of this edition will be to develop the theme of “temporary settlement” through three main key words: Host, Feed, Excite.
WORKSHOPS
The Workshops are divided into 3 sections (Architecture, Design, Communication) and closely linked to the Cava degli Umori regeneration program. They are articulated in a first global planning session in permaculture and a deepening of individual themes.
The Design section, linked to the Ten Square Meters Contest, involves the implementation of the winning project (a mobile and temporary Food Point) and the design of an integrated food production system; The Communication section will focus on brand identity; The Architecture section on the formulation of project proposals for further functionalization of the area in an active relationship with the context.
Subscribers can choose to attend one of the workshops according to available spots, filling the application form.

Made of agricultural, wood, and tire wraps.
Every participant will make a bed spot on the first day to get familiar with the tools and materials and to rest during the next days.

for the ancient stairway.
During the 1980s, the quarry remained disconnected from above. It mesures 30 square meters, it develops on two levels and it is adjacent to the Performative, Food and Relax area.

A space dedicated to talk,
live show, performance.
Directed by the visionary Francesco Lipari of OFL Studio. The aim of the workshop will be to design and realize an emotional module that can give birth to new events supporting integrated and strongly related contexts through technology and interaction.

Feed the Quarry
A new way of sustainability
for the Querry of Moods.
A workshop to imagine and build what it takes to manage and sustain the food cycle, starting with the principles of permaculture. Imagine solutions to feed the quarry with fertile soil to turn it into a garden, a vegetable garden, an orchard, a greenhouse to produce fruit, vegetables and spices; of a compost to recover food waste, produce fertile soil, and continue the cycle.

A corner for refreshment,
quarry-tailored.
In line with the Ten Square Meters Contest, the winning project will be realized. In addition to the Food Point element, you will be able to design and realize the area of administration including tables and seating. The implementation will be supported by the winner of the competitoon, plus more technical support.

Our cities need both visions and concreteness. Since 2013 we have involved more than 200 students and dozens of professionals to analyze urban gaps in the city, rethinking the Macello neighborhood with 20 productions of architectural projects, urban design and communication plans designed to develop a predefined project area.

The program allows you to improve your manual skills, familiarize yourself with materials and work tools, enrich your portfolio with a structures designed and made with your hands. Each project will be uploaded online and inserted in Periferica’s portfolio.
